About the Artist

Ellie Shuster has been sculpting for almost 20 years. She began as a figurative artist, taking classes from local fine artists and working with models. Her fascination with realism and expression led her to explore portraiture – and from portraits to relief.

Largely self-taught and working exclusively with clay, Ellie explores the realm of faces – capturing the personalities of her subjects.

Whether sculpting on commission or producing pieces for exhibition, she prefers to use photographs for her portraits. She is still often found in the studio with a model, refining her eye through figurative sculpture.

Ellie is a member of the Alberta Craft Council, Sculptors Association of Alberta, Professional Arts Coalition of Edmonton, Harcourt House Artist Run Centre, and the Funeral Service Association of Canada. Examples of Ellie Shuster’s work can be found at www.portraitsinclay.ca.
